board & train
As part of our Board & Train Program, your dog will be worked around people, other dogs and in many different environments. Although our time alone with your dog is essential in order for him/her to gain trust and feel at home, visits are scheduled for you and your family under our supervision. These guided training sessions give you an opportunity to learn more about dogs behavior in general, and we teach you the same methods we use while training your dog. We also offer follow-up meetings to make sure your dog is still doing well and answer any questions you may have. The focused time we spend with your dog is so important, we limit the number of dogs we board and train at the same time.
If you are short on time or planning an extended vacation, Board & Train may be perfect for you. Our board & train program is meant for family dogs that:
- Act possessive of a thing or place, but has not bitten?
- Act aggressive towards other dogs or people, but has not bitten?
- Has problems with house training?
- In general, has bad manners
- Pulls the leash when walking
- Jumps up on visitors
- Does not come when called
- Refuses to stay
***For puppies under the age of five months***
Our puppy program is a four-week program that covers all on-leash, basic commands, and general manners while building your puppy’s confidence! We spend a great deal of time proofing these behaviors around distractions (and in new environments) to ensure that your puppy will listen to you in a variety of settings.
How Does it Work?
Your puppy will stay with us for four weeks and begin learning commands such as sit, down, heel, come, stay, and place. Not only will your puppy be getting a head start on basic, on-leash obedience commands, he or she will also be learning "good manners" like no jumping and no biting. Every training session is geared towards ensuring your puppy's success, and we place a heavy emphasis on making training fun while also focusing on confidence-building exercises to ensure that your puppy can tackle whatever obstacles come his or her way!
During the program, we will send video updates throughout the stay. Upon completion of the training program (on pick-up day), you will attend a 1-2 hour private lesson where we will show you what your puppy learned and how to apply the training to your everyday life. Before sending you home, we’ll observe you working with your puppy to ensure you feel comfortable using and applying the training. Once you settle back into your home, we recommend you come back within two weeks for a free follow-up class.
What Does it Include?
This includes the following on-leash commands: Sit, Down, Sit/Stay, Down/Stay, Heel, Come, Place, and Off. In addition, this program includes three off-site training field-trips, bi-weekly progress updates, and unlimited phone and email support post-training. A training collar is also provided with this course.
What Does My Puppy Need for This Program?
To prevent stomach upset, we ask that you provide the food for your puppy's stay. In order to keep our facility a safe place for our four-legged friends, we require proof of your puppy's up-to-date vaccinations: Rabies, Bordetella, and at least three sets of DHPP.
***For Dogs Ages 6 Months and Older***
With our Devoted Dog program, your dog will learn commands such as sit, down, heel, come, stay, and place. Basic good manners, such as not bolting out of doors and not jumping on people, will be taught as well. Our balanced approach to training utilizes operant conditioning to bring about lasting results in your dog’s behavior. At Family First K9, we place a heavy emphasis on making training fun while also focusing on confidence-building exercises to ensure that your dog can handle what life throws at them.
